FAQ:
"What is a pursuit race?"
A pursuit race is a type of long-distance racing that takes advantage of fixed marks on the lake and a boat's Time Over Distance handicap rating. The higher your rating, the earlier your boat starts. In theory, all participants should reach the finish line at the same time.
"Do I need a lot of racing experience for a pursuit race?"
Not at all! Pursuit races have long legs that allow you to practice different sail trim adjustments and maneuvers, and the staggered start times guarantee that the starting line isn't crowded.
"Where do I find my Time Over Distance rating?"
If you don't see your boat listed in appendix C of the sailing instructions, please reach out to the HYC office and we will review the SLVYRA list of boats to determine your rating.
"Can I whitesail?"
Yes, whitesail is allowed. Please refer to 13.2 in the Sailing Instructions for the procedure to register yourself as a whitesail participant.
"Can I show up on the day and race?"
Because of the calculations required for each fleet's starting time, the Sailing Instructions require that participants register online on the Official Notice Board prior to 10:00am on the day of the race.
"Where do I find my boat's starting time?"
Race Management will recommend a course based on the conditions of the day which will allow you to select your start time from the grid in Appendix C from the Sailing Instructions.
All other inquiries can be sent to the HYC office and a member of the Sailing Committee will be happy to help.
